TV and film heartthrob Dylan McDermott, best known for his role on the TV series The Practice, will join previously announced ER star Maura Tierney in Playwrights Horizons' upcoming world premiere production of Nicky Silver's Three Changes. Previews begin on August 22, with opening night set for September 16 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater. The limited engagement is set to run through September 28, directed by Wilson Milam.
McDermott will star opposite Tierney as Nate, one half of a happily married couple whose lives are unraveled by the arrival of the Nate's wayward brother, Hall, from Hollywood. What at first seems a casual visit is quickly revealed as something more ominous. Hal may have had success, but human connection is all that matters, and he intends to make connections—no matter who pays the price. Three Changes also features Aya Cash and Brian J. Smith; the part of Hal has not yet been cast.
A Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner for his role on The Practice, McDermott was last seen on the New York stage in Eve Ensler's The Treatment in 2006. Other stage credits include Broadway's Biloxi Blues and Golden Boy at the Williamstown Theater Festival. His numerous television appearances include the 2007 series Big Shots, Tales from the Crypt, Saturday Night Live and Will & Grace. Film credits include Edison, Wonderland, Home for the Holidays, Steel Magnolias, In The Line of Fire and the 1994 remake of Miracle on 34th Street.
Other shows previously announced for the upcoming Playwrights Horizons season are Adam Rapp's Kindness, Craig Lucas' Prayer for My Enemy, Evan Smith's The Savannah Disputation, Christina Anderson's Inked Baby and Theresa Rebeck's Our House.
